According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Consul-General of Myanmar in Nanning, China, briefed the official of the Foreign Office of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region about the tarnishing of Myanmar’s image in the film named No More Bets, which was shot by China and released in China and around the world.
Consul-General U Kyaw Soe Thein made this clarification during his meeting with Ms Lian Yin, Director of the Foreign Office of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the reception hall of the Myanmar Consulate General on 26 September.
Consul-General U Kyaw Soe Thein highlighted the Myanmar government’s cooperation with neighbouring countries in the fight against online crimes regarding the tarnishing of Myanmar’s image since the Chinese film No More Bets was screened in China and across the globe in recent months.
The issue of signing a memorandum of understanding on education cooperation between the Ministry of Education of Myanmar and the Department of Education of Guangxi Region was also discussed.
He explained that the movie ‘No More Bets’ is about the characters who were affected by online scams, the storylines are related to Myanmar, and there are reports that Chinese nationals are worried about visiting Myanmar.
Regarding discussions, Ms Lian Yin expressed her appreciation for discussing the development situation of Myanmar. Regarding the movie, she said that the public should only believe official statements and news about the fight against crime by the governments, and she continued to say that by looking at the successes of the cooperation between the governments of the two countries, they will be able to see the attitudes of the governments.
The Guanxi regional government emphasized the relationship and cooperation with ASEAN countries, including Myanmar, and reiterated that it will cooperate with the Guanxi Department of Education to sign a memorandum of understanding on education cooperation. — ASH/KZL
